Trapped
The burly human gave a wink to his dwarven comrade as they faced down the horde of ravaging destruction enemies descending on them.
“Oath friend” the human said with a smile. The dwarf merely grunted and tightened the grip on his hammer. They both knew it was futile given the number of enemies they faced. Combined they didn’t have the strength to defeat such numbers, but there they stood, weapons ready waiting, almost anxious for the coming battle.
What possible resistance could 2 soldiers make against a full war band of seasoned enemies; they must have been laughing as they approached the pathetic dwarf and his human lackey.
“Easy pickins” as a greenskin might put it. “Lunch” as another might.
It would look as insanity to any onlookers who didn’t know the pair. Why aren’t they running! One might think. The dwarf turned to his “friend” and said the only words he cared to utter at that moment, almost bored with it, Almost. “Oath friend” The human smiled widely and grabbed up his hammer and libram. Sigmar be with us! “I hope Sigmar is with us today little friend” he smirked at his stout companion. The dwarf merely grunted and tightened the grip on his hammer.
“Why so grumpy today? This is your favorite part” laughed the human. The dwarf eyed the human, they had fought many battles in the past, and by strength or luck they had always come out alive, but strength can only get you so far, and luck would run out eventually. The human seemed over confident, that this was just another performance they would play out as they’d done countless times before.
“You did drink your ale today didn’t you?” the human said, referring to the special potions they had bought earlier that day. “You do seem a bit more ominous than regular” the human laughed out load, picturing how they looked to the approaching enemies. The dwarf merely grunted and tightened the grip on his hammer.
In came the Destruction war band, swords, axes, javelins, and some unidentifiable pieces of fleshy things, stabbed, slashed, swung and poked at the two “frightened” fighters.
Music intro “Barracuda” by Heart
The dwarf was a magnificent specimen to watch in battle, he was like a whirlwind of bone crushing malice, with a big hammer! He didn’t even think to take notice of any wounds he might have taken, well because there were none. The human matched the skill of the powerful dwarf, not nearly as devastating, but how he could weave the power of Sigmar into devastating blows of healing power, was beyond the grasp of the “thick” dwarf. He only knew it was effective and had kept him knee deep (approximately 10”) in Greenskin gore for years now. They had perfected the science of killing; slowly, “grudgingly”, effectively. It seemed as if the destruction weapons had no effect on either of them. One would hit the dwarf square in the face, only to see the dwarf smile and return the favor. Another would chop at the human, hear the dwarf grunt, and feel the crushing blow of the defenders hammer shatter its spine. For all their efforts, the destruction horde could not kill, or even, seemingly hurt the two fighters. What vile magic this must be, a trick of the human gods some dim greenshin might think. Little did the doomed enemy fighters know, that this was just a distraction, a concert of staunch defense combined with the healing ferocity of the man god Sigmar, played to hold them there while the arriving forces or the Empire approached. The enemy also didn’t know that this performance was only designed to last a short while, eventually the pair would exhaust all of their “tricks” and be run through as easily as one might have thought in the first place. It just seemed impossible to the ravaging horde that these two unlikely foes could survive and more impossibly hold off their assault. The pair were merely content on holding grownd, no advance of any kind. “Slaughter them” screamed one over large gerenskin. “We’re tryin…” screeched one unfortunate goblin who’s head splattered apart at the force of one massive overhead hammer chop! The battle waged on for what seemed an eternity, but was only minutes; the 2 defenders were starting to show signs of weakness and beginning to slow. The horde saw this and began their assault a new, with the powerful bellow of a greenskin WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG!
Sitting on a road at the top of a hill, the purple clad warriors of one distinctive guild watched the scene below them. “Should we join the fight boss” said one rather dangerous looking human dressed in the robes of the famous bright wizards. “Not yet, they’re still having some fun” smirked the feathery clad warrior of the “Sun”. “We can’t make it too easy for them, let em sweat a little”
For the first time since the melee started, the pair of empire soldiers were beginning to give ground, they were down to their last bit of magic, and their strength was beginning to fade. One sneaky goblin got a poke in at the dwarf and cut a deep scar into his cheek. It died soon after, but made the dwarf take notice, and turned to the human with an angry, but inquisitive look. The human shrugged and said “potion?” with an awkward smile on his face. The dwarf grunted and used one of the healing potions he had at the ready. The human scanned the roads and hills quickly for any signs of reinforcements, there were none he could see. A slight panic came over the human as he turned back to the dwarf, who was ferociously defending himself at this point. “Um, this might be a good time to run?” said the human, as he cast out a powerful spell healing them both, and shielding them both with a protective aura. The dwarf turned to face the human with a quizative look. The human merely shrugged and turned and ran from the melee. The dwarfs eyes widened he turned back to his attackers, lifted his hammer above his head and with all of his night, smashed the ground in front of him, sending all enemies in front of him flying backwards. The dwarf grunted, turned, and started off after the human.
The amused captain at the top of the hill gave the ready signal to his fellow guild members, and they charged down the hill towards the fleeing pair. The captain started to laugh out loud as he came upon the pair running the opposite direction. “The fighting is that way” pointing to the direction the two fighters had just come from, laughed the captain. “Eat goblin snot” yelled the human as he ran past his beloved and very welcome guild war band. The dwarf grunted in agreement with the human as they both slowed their run and turned around to follow their friends into battle once again.
